Let's hope my mum sends more

In between the ages of four and ten, my hair was not corkscrew curly. Once I hit eleven, it was, as the kids in school told me, like I put my finger in a light socket.  Another good reason to have dreadlocks, although I have noticed, since I let my hair dread up, how many great hair products there are for curly hair these days. (Though none are available in India.)

I think this photo is from the third grade.  I'm guessing from the state of my chiclet teeth.  They are the teeth of an eight-year-old.

Rae as a kid

Apparently the photographer was in a rush, and centering was one of those things that just seemed like too much trouble.

And a smocked dress--I believe you too were a child of the 70's. I rocked a similar look with an untied hair ribbon--photographer couldn't be bothered to fix it the one pigtail so I looked shamefully crooked.

Around that age, kids started calling me Chiclets because of the size of my front teeth. This makes me want to dig out some old photos of myself at this age.

Your hair was such an amazing color. I miss bright red rae spiral hair sometimes. Even if it was a henna rinse by then. Your dreads totally suit you, but I've always loved your hair.

I hope your mom sends more too.

You were so cute, and yes the centering is a problem.

My son has the same hair. Curly till 11, and now totally corkscrew. (he's 14) He likes to wear it a bit long. On the last day of school, he combed it out in an afro and it was truly enormous. He was so stoked!

Ah, puberty. Ray's hair used to go straight down, then when he turned thirteen it went straight up.

I see Kid A in you, or perhaps it is the other way around. Wow. Rae as a kid. So much the same and yet some so different. Quite a mischieveous glint in your eye.

I almost pee'd myself laughing from Josy's comment. How I love childhood pictures. You were the cutest kid.
