We all crowded in

It was Kid A's first barber shop haircut.

His Superstar dad usually cuts his hair, but I grew impatient and his hair was getting to that point where it gathers lint and makes my life unnecessarily difficult.

So off we went to the village barber.  There was a drunk man outside of the barber shop, which made me feel like I was in a novel.

Maybe I am.

Kid A had the best flinchy faces the whole time.  Like the barber was pulling his hair out instead of using a pair of scissors.

The excitement was almost too much.  We were all in awe of the coolness of the barbershop.

And the coolness of the large face brush.  I would like one, please, for home.  Just for those moments when you want to run some soft bristles over your face, you know?

You may be surprised that we stuck with the original plan of getting Kid A a haircut, and didn't get a massage at the Body,Face Massage counter. What the photo doesn't show is that this is the door to a room that was approximately 1 inch x 2 inches.

I also declined a cold wax.

Though it was tempting.

good call on the cold wax!

Oh, gosh, that cold wax looks like it was made in the 50s. I'm pretty sure that's when the label was designed. Kind of refreshing, really; Russia is in a 1980s time warp.

Yes, I think you DO live in a novel. ;-) And I am always oh so glad when I bop over here and you have posted another bit of a chapter for me to share along with you. And, as always, your kids are ADORABLE.

Ah, those first flinchy-faced haircuts. I remember them well. Bummer there were no massages.

Why the haircut? I see everyone else has dreadlocks.
He looks exaclty like my son when he gets his haircut though. They are adorable.

Such beautiful children you have. It's stunning and really quite wonderful how little it takes to awe and amaze children who aren't overstimulated from dawn til dusk- adults too for that matter :) ...and those flinchy faces are exactly what my boys used to give me when I cut their hair with electric clippers. Except without that handsome Kid A smile. And they grumbled throughout the whole affair. And claimed that I WAS pulling their hair out rather than cutting it. Good times!

Kid A hasn't changed that much in his facial expressions from his first haircut - remember that in the condo in Windsor CA? But at least he doesn't look like he's going to cry any moment. He's growing up for sure. Did he enjoy having his hair cut by a barber?

Glad you passed on the Cold Wax as well. It would probably take the skin right off....the can is so old.
