Today at the Land...

For days now, Derek has been taking his revenge on the Douglas Fir that almost killed him. The chainsaws have been roaring, the axes are flying. No, we are not logging our Land. Last winter a massive tree fell in the wee hours of the morning, almost squashing our dear Derek. He had just stood up in his tiny trailer, seconds away from his pillow, when a branch tore through the roof and shot through the air where his head had been, seconds before he walked out the door where the tree landed. This tree was an earthshaker, and I think that Derek felt incredibly vulnerable and incredibly cared-for. God was surely guiding him, or maybe the tree to miss him. Now, however, it's DEREK'S TURN, as the immense giant of a tree is converted into firewood.

A friendly pest has moved in with us, the residents of Cabin A. We call him the Energizer Cricket. I think that's all I have to say, except that we have no idea where he is, other than that he's somewhere in the cabin, and that he appears to be mainly a nocturnal musician, although he is awake for amazing chunks of the day as well. Kid A is fighting his fear of Energizer Cricket, continually wanting reassurance that the cricket is actually outside, which I can't give him because, well, that would be lying.
