a series on being: part four

:: part 4 ::

I am of course writing these things for myself, attempting to teach myself things about being a human that I have been mulling over for years. Like many of us, I think I assumed that the first step was bending to become the me that others needed. I got the order wrong, because first, I needed a self to move or choose not to move. Instead, I became the bending, the fitting, the movement. I became the shape to fit the needed space.

Dear One, first you need to know who you are. Then, God, of course, has many ideas for your life. Many are dull and repetitive and are the food that builds and restores you, even when you want more of the exciting parts. And one day you may find that the dull parts are the best parts. But there are also things like flight, and days like jewels, and oceans.

But first you learn that you are not the reaching, you are not the shape of negative space around others. You have your own shape. This is good. This is the shape you will use to love God and people. This is the shape that soaks up love. Negative space can’t soak up love, love just goes through space and puddles on the ground.
